Currently assigned to the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, the 225th Brigade Support Battalion was originally constituted on 10 February 1971 in the Regular Army as the 225th Support Battalion and activated in Vietnam. It participated in two campaigns in Vietnam before it returned to its home base at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii and was inactivated on 30 April 1971.

Over two decades elapsed before the Battalion was activated as an element of the 25th Infantry Division on 16 April 1992. In October 2005, the Battalion was relieved from assignment to the 25th Infantry Division and was assigned to its current role in the 2nd Brigade Combat Team (now Infantry Brigade Combat Team), 25th Infantry Division.

For its support of the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Division between January 2004 and February 2005 in Iraq, the unit’s extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy was recognized with a Valorous Unit Award, the first of three military decorations the unit was given between 2004 and 2011 (it is also credited with at least two campaigns in the War on Terrorism, with additional campaigns yet to be determined.).

The 225th Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia, better known as a “unit crest” or a DUI, was approved on 1 October 1991. Its buff (gold) and scarlet colors are traditionally used in the heraldry for Support organizations—gold is for excellence, scarlet for courage—while its black tones represent security and strength. Two keys placed back to back and interlinked symbolize the provision of both advance or rear-guard support, with the linkage denoting singleness of purpose. A pair of sabers represents the individual Soldier and are interlaced with the keys as an emblem of the unity and cooperation encapsulated in the Battalion motto "Warrior Support."

Unofficially nicknamed “Dragons,” the 225th Brigade Support Battalion is still based at Schofield Barracks on the island of Oahu in Hawaii.
