This particular insignia of the 3rd Artillery Regiment was used from June 30, 1959 until the unit was reorganized and re-designated on September 1, 1971. Much of the symbolism is retained within the 3rd Air Defense Artillery Regiment insignia. Other aspects of the insignia as well as the unit motto, "Celeritas et Accuratio" (“Speed and Accuracy”), are retained within the 3rd Field Artillery Regiment insignia.Text by Brian Hall and Benjamin Hines.
