58th Aviation Battalion Unit Crest (Safe Orderly Expeditious)
USThe 58th Aviation Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia, also called a unit crest or DUI for short, was approved on 6 September 1968. “Safe Orderly Expeditious,” the unit motto, emphasizes the unit’s reliability in achieving its goals. Two golden wings rising from the globe denote the unit’s ability to provide technical and administrative supervision essential to mission success. A symbol of command and control, the sun alludes to the tactical and logistical capabilities of the organization. Gridlines on the globe are a reference to air traffic control and coverage of navigation signals. The five rays of the sun, combined with the disc and globe simulating the number 8, provide the numerical designation of the unit.
Constituted in the Regular Army as HQ Company, 58th Aviation Battalion on 22 January 1968, the 58th Aviation Regiment today has three active Battalions. 1st Battalion is stationed at Fort Rucker and provides expeditionary air-traffic services and management for airfields in support of unified land operations. 2nd Battalion, also based at Fort Rucker, is under the command of U.S. Army Reserve Aviation Command, and 3rd Battalion is an Airfield Operations Battalion headquartered at Simmons Army Airfield at Fort Bragg.
Among the Regiment’s battle honors are four campaign streamers and a Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm from the Vietnam War, a campaign streamer from the invasion of Panama during Operation Just Cause, two streamers from Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and two Meritorious Unit Commendations from the War on Terrorism.
