Chief Master Sgt. Gerald R. Murray was the 14th Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force. The challenge coin in the image is associated with his tenure. 
Role and Service: He served in the highest enlisted position from July 1, 2002, through June 30, 2006. In this role, he acted as the personal adviser to the Chief of Staff and the Secretary of the Air Force on matters concerning the welfare, readiness, and morale of the enlisted force.
Background: Chief Murray entered the Air Force in October 1977 and had a background in various aircraft maintenance duties.
Focus: During his time as CMSAF, one of his primary focuses was on evolving the expeditionary Air Force to meet new global challenges following the events of September 11, 2001.
