While JTF-6 (now Joint Task Force North) provided military support, Operation Alliance served as the coordinating body for over 17 federal, state, and local Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs).
1994 Key Activities and Impact
Operational Integration: Operation Alliance reviewed and approved requests for military assistance from LEAs, then forwarded them to JTF-6 at Fort Bliss, Texas, to locate volunteer military units to fulfill the mission.
Engineering Projects: JTF-6 provided critical infrastructure support, including building or improving Border Patrol roads, constructing fences, and installing lighting systems. A major programmatic environmental impact statement was completed in 1994 to facilitate these projects across California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.
Surveillance and Interdiction: Missions included ground and air reconnaissance, intelligence analysis, and training. For instance, a notable mission in Nogales, Arizona, used advanced sensor technology to monitor border activity.
Resource Allocation: As of September 1994, approximately 3,747 Border Patrol agents (88% of the nationwide total) were concentrated in the nine sectors supported by JTF-6 and Operation Alliance
