The 468th Chemical Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia, also called a unit crest or DUI, was authorized on 9 March 1990. “Veil Of The Dragon,” the Battalion motto, is inscribed in golden yellow letters on a cobalt-blue scroll, incorporating the two branch colors of the Chemical Corps. Golden yellow is also used for the background of the shield, which is shaped like a smoke cloud as an allusion to the unit’s mission and is a reference to the motto.

On the field is a fire-breathing dragon—a mythical creature often used in the heraldry of Chemical units—standing upon a portcullis, a gate seen on castles, to emphasize the staunch defense capabilities of the unit.

Allotted to the Army Reserve, the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 468th Chemical Battalion is a component of the 209th Regional Support Group, 76th Operational Response Command. It was activated during the launch of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 and was awarded a Navy Presidential Unit Citation on 9 April 2008 for its role in achieving missions success in the first few weeks of combat.
