10th Mountain Division
The 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) is a specialized, rapidly deployable U.S. Army division headquartered at Fort Drum, New York. Famous for its historic "Climb to Glory" motto, it is the only U.S. military division of its size uniquely trained to operate in severe terrains, mountainous regions, and extreme cold-weather environments.History and OriginsFormed in 1943 during World War II, the division originally recruited elite skiers, climbers, and outdoorsmen. These "ski troopers" trained at Camp Hale, Colorado, and played a pivotal role in breaching German defenses in the Italian Alps. Following the war, many of these veterans returned to the U.S. and became foundational figures in the development of the American skiing industry.
