The Distinctive Unit Insignia (more commonly referred to as a unit crest or a DUI) of the U.S. Army Soldier Support Institute features a bright green background that invokes the lush countryside and vibrant foliage near Fort Benjamin Harrison, the Institute’s original location. A torch and Heneage knot are adapted from the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia of U.S. Army Administrative Schools Center, the parent organization of the original unit when this insignia was first authorized.

Gold and silver here represent the last value of the knowledge that is passed by the various schools that make up the Institute, with a pair of white stars bookending the torch to represent Guidance and Leadership. PRAECIPERE MILITI, the motto of the Institute, is Latin for "Teaching The Soldier.”

This insignia was first approved on 23 July 1973 for the U.S. Army Institute of Administration (a subordinate element of the U.S. Army Administrative Schools Center). It was redesignated for the U.S. Army Soldier Support Center with an effective date of 3 June 1980 and subsequently redesignated for the U.S. Army Soldier Support Institute effective 1 October 1994.

The U.S. Army Solder Support Institute is now located at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Its major components include three schools (Adjutant General, Financial and Comptroller, Music), a Noncommissioned Officer Academy, the 369th Adjutant General Battalion, and Interservice Postal Training Activity.
